To celebrate 70 years in Australia and to mark the commencement of its transformative roll out of ID Battery Electric Vehicles, Volkswagen is writing its name across the nation in a Guiness World Record attempt at the biggest GPS image made by a vehicle.
Production has commenced for Australia’s initial allocation of its first four Volkswagen battery electric vehicles: ID.4 Pro, ID.5 GTX; plus the already iconic ID.Buzz and Buzz Cargo.
Also on sale before the end of 2024 will be SKODA’s Enyaq, Audi’s Q4 and CUPRA’s Tavascan BEVs. Early in the New Year these will be followed by Audi’s Q6 and the CUPRA Born VZ with all brands scheduled to introduce still further new BEV nameplates later in 2025.
Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) Managing Director Karsten Seifert said a “new chapter has begun not only for the brand, but for all of Volkswagen Group Australia brands”.
“VGA will become the foremost European supplier of BEVs,” Mr Seifert said. “We will soon go from four models at present to four times that.
“VGA’s BEV Strategy is a multi-faceted plan to provide customers with a comprehensive, whole of ownership package including the installation of home charging to make the transition to electric mobility seamless for the customer.
“Our showroom offering across all brands will be unique in its extent – everything from city cars to supercars, and a leading light commercial vehicle range, all with a choice of conventional engines, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles and an ever growing choice of full Battery Electric Vehicles.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen is collaborating with Rainer Zeitlow, holder of multiple endurance driving records. Driving his ID.4, he is attempting to inscribe “70 years of VeeDub” will be ‘written’ across several states.
He will then ‘frame’ this image by circumnavigating the entire country, a seven week, 33,000km epic during which Volkswagen’s game-changing electric SUV will be introduced to customers and hardcore “VeeDub” fans en route.
