In a ringing endorsement of Volkswagen's Crafter, the specialist moving and courier service Yellow Express is acquiring some 90 of the capacious class-leading vans.
Through its fleet of owner operator driven vans, Yellow Express specialises in same day courier services, moving owners of apartments of up to two bedrooms in size, and pieces of large or precious furniture.
Yellow Express will entirely replace its current fleet of Renault Masters with Volkswagen's medium wheelbase Crafter 340TDI vans with 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive.
Delivered via Volkswagen' dealer partners, Crafters come with five year unlimited kilometre warranty, the options of three or five years Care Plans ($1700 or $2670) and one-hour Service Xpress (at participating dealerships). The latter is proving especially attractive to owner operators, for whom time off the road is potentially money lost.
Yellow Express Managing Director Lisa Lown said that the Crafter was the logical choice for the business.
"Volkswagen somehow has figured out how to turn a serious commercial workhorse into a luxury car," Ms Lown said. "The switch is a no brainer. I want my Delivery Service Operators to experience this type of quality and comfort while navigating the stressful environment of consumer logistics."
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director Ryan Davies said that this was a hallmark of the brand's commercial range.
"We believe that a van should have driver comfort and safety comparable to Volkswagen's passenger vehicles," Mr Davies said. "That philosophy is true of the Crafter and incoming new Caddy, which is the most 'Golf-like' to date."
