Zetland, August 7, 2020 – Audi Australia announces the arrival of its refreshed Audi A5 model range; an unrivalled combination of style and substance, that fuses state-of-the art technologies with exceptional design aesthetics to create an intuitive companion with powerful performance.
The Audi A5 was once described by legendary Audi designer Walter de Silva, as the 'the most beautiful car I've ever designed' and the newly refreshed A5 Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet build on the model's timeless elegance by seamlessly incorporating the new Audi design language.
"The refreshed Audi A5 range is a contemporary work of art," said Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
"The A5's silhouette has always been stunning, and now its striking proportions have been beautifully sculpted to highlight its strengths as a dynamic performer.
"The latest A5 is also a technology trend-setter, and is equipped with a suitably generous level of features – as expected by owners of such an exclusive vehicle," said Sansom.
Boasting a powerful presence, the new A5 is available in three body styles: including the A5 Coupé, A5 Sportback and the vivacious Cabriolet. The new A5 model range comprises of two 2.0-litre four cylinder engines: two TFSI petrol engine variants equipped with 12V mild-hybrid technology (MHEV) for strong performance that contributes up to 0.3L/100km on fuel saving efficiencies.
The A5 entry variant 40 TFSI is powered by a 2.0 TFSI engine, producing 140kW with peak torque of 320Nm. Meanwhile, the 45 TFSI quattro is the performance model in the range, producing 183kW of power with peak torque of 370Nm and can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.8 seconds (Coupé), 6.0 seconds with the Sportback and 6.3 seconds with the Cabriolet body style. Fuel efficiency is 7.1 L/100km for the Coupé and Sportback and 7.4 L/100km for the Cabriolet.
Both the 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI quattro variants are equipped with a fast-shifting seven-speed S tronic transmission, while the 45 TFSI variants directs power to the road via the legendary Audi quattro permanent all-wheel drive with ultra technology.
Instinctively captivating, the new A5 model range benefits from the S line exterior package as standard fitment, alongside an even sportier design concept that emphasises its athletic prowess. The iconic Singleframe grille has a thicker frame and a honeycomb insert, with ventilation slots above that are reminiscent of an Audi icon, the Sport quattro from 1984. A bold blade forms the lower edge of the bumper, which features larger air inlets.
Vertical bars divide the inlets into two zones. The air stream flows through the outer zone into the wheel arches, where it is flows past the wheels with little swirl. A redesigned sill that tapers toward the middle makes the car appear slimmer when viewed from the side while also underscoring the highlighting of the wheels. The rear appears wider than before thanks to the new diffuser insert, which encloses the two trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes. A chrome strip above the insert extends over the entire width of the rear end.
Matrix LED headlights with dynamic indicators are standard, illuminating the road ahead, whileprounonced wheel arches house standard 19-inch alloy wheels and further accentuate the A5's strong road presence.
Inside the cabin, intuitive technology creates the quintessential digital assistant with the seamless integration of Audi smartphone interface via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Unique displays in the standard Audi virtual cockpit plus provide all necessary information for the driver, enhanced by the new 10.1-inch high-resolution MMI touch display. With its crystal clear 1,540 x 720 pixel resolution, the beautifully crafted display is seamlessly integrated into the dashboard, and is only 13mm slender. Despite this, it is a powerful platform that commands all manner of convenient 'touch or talk' driving, infotainment and connectivity functions.
Audi connect plus functionality facilitates seamless integration of online traffic, weather conditions, fuel prices, parking information and Google Maps into the A4 driving experience, together with additional functions enabled through the myAudi smartphone app like remote lock/unlock, destination send-to-car function, service request, emergency call and more, thanks to the embedded SIM card.
Other high-value features designed for simplicity and to make life easier include wireless charging for your mobile phone with two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, two USB outlets in the front with charging and connectivity capabilities, alongside two rear USB outlets with charging functions. Additionally, the new A5 range is fitted with an Audi sound system (10 speakers, 180W with subwoofer) and Digital radio DAB+.
Exceptional levels of comfort further enhance the interior of the new A5, offering a decidedly sport edge, with luxurious appointment. Horizontal design elements with accent surfaces in gloss black and aluminium trims illustrate the cabin, while details such as leather upholstery, sport front seats and the multifunction leather steering wheel with shift paddles underscore its athletic character.
