Priced from $42,990 RRP
132kW/320Nm turbocharged petrol engine available at launch
Autonomous braking, Multi-Collision Braking and Passenger Protect Assist as standard
Simply Clever features include mechanical door edge protection
Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia, May 31 2017 – ŠKODA Australia is proud to introduce its highlyanticipated SUV, the ŠKODA KODIAQ priced from $42,990 RRP.
The KODIAQ marks a new phase in ŠKODA's Australian story – its fi rst foray into the rapidly growing seven seat SUV segment. Since the brand's arrival in 2007, ŠKODA has brought to the discerning buyer the latest technology and European design, class-leading convenience and safety systems and - above all - exceptional value-for-money.
The KODIAQ is built on these pillars.
Much like ŠKODA's luxury marque-rivalling Superb sedan or wagon, the KODIAQ's standard specifi cation belies its alluring price.
ŠKODA Australia has ensured its KODIAQs off er the highest possible level of equipment, including a raft of safety and convenience features and fl ourishes of luxury refi nement in addition to ŠKODA's cuttingedge of new design language.
The KODIAQ is powered by the latest-generation 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine, making 132kW and 320Nm, driven through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
This engine, standard at the time of launch, uses just 7.6 litres per 100km. A 140kW turbocharged diesel engine joins the line-up later in the year.
The all-new KODIAQ features the latest in potentially life-saving safety technology. Standard is Front Assist with City Emergency Brake, nine airbags, front and rear parking sensors with Rear View Camera, Passenger Protect Assist, fatigue detection, tyre pressure monitoring system, fog lights with cornering function, electronically activated Child Safety Lock for the rear doors from the driver position and Multi-Collision Braking.
The KODIAQ also includes a host of standard convenience items and the 'Simply Clever' features that ŠKODA customers have come to expect.
There is: Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Keyless Entry including Smart Start (KESSY), LED headlights with Adaptive Frontlight System (AFS), dual-zone Climatronic air conditioning, electric parking brake with Auto Hold function, automatic tailgate with electric opening and closing (height programmable), adjustable second row seating for easy entry of third row passengers (Easy Entry Function), mechanical sun blinds for rear windows, foldable side mirrors, integrated LED torch in the luggage compartment, a net system in the luggage compartment (three nets) and two umbrellas in the front driver and passenger doors.
Making its premiere in the ŠKODA KODIAQ is the truly 'Simply Clever' door edge protection; a mechanical extending protective bumper that stops door damage with ingress and egress in confined spaces.
Within the vehicle, passengers are treated to an array of infotainment, including Columbus Satellite Navigation with an 8-inch glass touch screen, eight speakers and Bluetooth® audio and streaming, voice control, USB, a DVD and CD player, AUX and two SD card slots. Premiered in the ŠKODA Fabia, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality is also standard in the new KODIAQ, which gives users a gamut of features from their personal mobile device including messaging, music and maps.
The interior typifi es ŠKODA's blend of luxury and seamless practicality. The KODIAQ comes standard with Alcantara® leather appointed upholstery, LED interior lighting with decorative strips on the front/rear doors, two tablet holders and a three-spoke multi-functional fl at-bottom leather steering wheel with control for radio and phone. In short, the new KODIAQ off ers levels of equipment often found in high-end, premium marques but - as is so with all ŠKODAs – at a price in keeping with mainstream competitors.
Exterior design
At 4.70m in length, the ŠKODA KODIAQ is an all-rounder: the SUV that's suitable for business, as well as family and leisure use. The brand transfers its new design language into the SUV segment with a design that refl ects the car's versatility.
The KODIAQ's lines are clear, precise and clean-cut – this applies in particular to the distinctive, highly recessed shoulder line.
Double horizontal lines on the front symbolise protection and strength.
The wide, three-dimensional radiator grille is striking and conveys the robust character. The narrow, raked headlights, which flow seamlessly into the radiator grille, give the ŠKODA KODIAQ a distinctive appearance. The two double-headlights create a striking four-eyed face and stand out due to their crystalline structure, which can also be seen in other features such as the rear lights. Here, ŠKODA's then-Head of Design, Jozef Kaban, and his team were inspired by traditional Czech crystal glass art which
is also reflected in the eff ective interplay of light and shade on the SUV's highly contoured surfaces.
In the side view, the long wheelbase and short overhangs point to the large interior. The front of the vehicle and the wheel arches are slightly angular – a key element of ŠKODA's SUV design language.
LEDs are used as standard in the rear lights; the rear lights also feature the C-shaped design that is typical of ŠKODA. A choice of eight paint fi nishes is available – one standard colour (Candy White), six metallic colours (Moon White, Brilliant Silver, Quartz Grey, Lava Blue, Jungle Green and Magnetic Brown) and on pearlescent (Black Magic).
Driver assistance systems
The KODIAQ utilizes an array of driver assistance systems, many of which have, until now, been seen only in prestige vehicle classes.
The Surround Area View system is a fi rst for ŠKODA: the surround-view cameras, which are located in the front and rear sections as well as in the wing mirrors of the ŠKODA KODIAQ, come with wide-angle lenses and allow views of the area immediately surrounding the car to be displayed on the monitor.
These include a virtual, top-down view and 180-degree images of the areas to the front and rear.
This makes it easier to drive in confusing situations or on rough terrain.
Front Assist including City Emergency Brake comes as standard and, using radar, can detect dangers in front of the car up to speeds of 210km/h. If necessary, the system warns the driver and, when required, partially or fully applies the brakes.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is also radar assisted and helps the driver to maintain the selected speed and the desired gap between the ŠKODA KODIAQ and the car in front.
Lane Assist, Side Assist - Blind Spot Detection and Rear Traffi c Alert help the driver to stay in lane, make changing lanes safer using the rear radar and help when manoeuvring in reverse. As part of the optional Luxury Pack, Traffi c Jam Assist is included as an additional function. It maintains speed and applies the brakes in slow-moving traffic.
Additionally, the car will be kept in lane thanks to the Lane Assist function.
Driver Fatigue Detection detects signs of fatigue in the driver and prompts them to take a break.
Emergency Assist, also included in the optional Luxury Pack, is a further function of the ACC and Lane Assist combination.
Should the danger arise that the driver is unable to drive, the system can bring the large SUV to a standstill. Passenger Protect Assist, standard in the KODIAQ, closes the windows and sunroof, and tensions the seat belts automatically in the event of an impending accident. If you have an accident, the Multi-Collision Braking, which also comes as standard, prevents any further uncontrolled movement of the ŠKODA KODIAQ.
Body
The ŠKODA KODIAQ off ers the perfect mix of a streamlined exterior and a generous interior. It is 4,697 mm long, 1,882 mm wide and 1,676 mm (including roof rails) tall; its wheelbase measures 2,791 mm. The KODIAQ is based on Volkswagen Group's modular transverse matrix (MQB) in which strict lightweight construction plays an important role. For the body, a combination of hot-stamped metal sheets forms the ultra-strong backbone. The large SUV weighs just 1,677 kg when empty (without the driver and passengers).
Torsional stiff ness, manufacturing precision, drive comfort and crash safety are also superior.
Thanks to its highly aerodynamic fi nesse, the large SUV achieves a Cx value of just 0.336.
Interior
The amount of space is typical of ŠKODA: the ŠKODA KODIAQ is just 40 mm longer than the ŠKODA Octavia, but off ers a larger-than-average interior for the SUV segment.
The SUV's interior length is 1,059mm, elbow room is 1,527mm in the front and 1,510mm in the second row. Head room is 1,020mm in the front, 1015mm in the second row and 905mm in the third row.
Rear legroom measures up to 104mm.
The SUV's interior is also protective and robust. The crisp exterior design carries on into the interior: the double lines – with their three-dimensional appearance – also feature on the instrument panel.
The interior is characterised by bold vertical elements, such as the four large air vents. The large display splits the instrument panel into two equal sections for the driver and passenger.
The high-quality workmanship as well as the logical and easy-to-understand operation are typical of ŠKODA. The large circular instruments have a precise and clear design. The dual-zone Climatronic, which has its own control panel for the rear seats, is another feature which is often found only in prestige vehicles. The electro-mechanical parking brake is activated by pressing a button.
Numerous comfort features are available for the front seats. As an option, they can be heated, ventilated and adjusted electronically; the latter extra also includes a memory function. The ŠKODA KODIAQ's rear seats are also extremely versatile: they can be folded in the ratio 60:40, can be moved lengthways by 18 cm as standard and the angle of the backrest is individually adjustable.
As an alternative to the standard Alcantara® leather-appointed upholstery, an optional leather trim is offered. In darkness, the ambient lighting adds an individual touch to the interior. It is built into the door trims and can be set to 10 diff erent colours.
Boot
With a volume of 270 to 2,065 litres (with the rear seats folded down), the ŠKODA KODIAQ has the largest boot in its class. The KODIAQ also has a standard electrically operated tailgate, and, with the Tech Pack, can be opened and closed using foot gesture command or a button in the interior.
Equipment
The 'Simply Clever' features available in the ŠKODA KODIAQ are further proof that ŠKODA always offers a little bit 'more car' for your money – the practical and convenient assistance in everyday life that is typical of the brand. These include, for example, door-edge protection: thanks to preloaded springs, this deploys automatically when opening the car door and prevents the metal edge of the door from coming into contact with a garage wall or an adjacent car. When shutting the door, the trim folds itself
back in. This 'Simply Clever' feature thereby prevents bumps and scratches to your own car, as well as neighbouring vehicles.
Electric child safety locks for the rear doors are introduced in the KODIAQ. In-Car Communication is available for the fi rst time in a ŠKODA. The KODIAQ also comes with two umbrellas in the front door sills, two tablet holders, three nets in the luggage compartment to hold cargo in place, and an LED torch.
The KODIAQ provides more 'Simply Clever' features than ever.
Infotainment system
Off ered as standard, ŠKODA's top-of-the-range infotainment system, the 8-inch screen Columbus 'Glass Design' infotainment system with navigation has SmartLink smartphone connectivity, with Apple Carplay® and Android Auto™ Bluetooth® with voice control, audio and streaming, USB, AUX and two SD card slots.
Attractive additional components round off the hardware off ering in the ŠKODA KODIAQ: The Canton Sound System, included in the optional Tech Pack, features ten speakers, including a subwoofer, and has a power output of 575 watts. As standard, the ŠKODA KODIAQ is equipped with two tablet holders that can be attached to the headrests.
Engines
The KODIAQ will launch in Australia with the most powerful petrol engine available: the 2.0-litre turbo four cylinder which makes 132kW and 320Nm. The 132TSI engine features a Stop-Start system, brake energy recovery and a powerful thermo-management system, contributing to low consumption despite the strong power delivery. The petrol engine features a new combustion process for high efficiency. A 2.0-litre four cylinder diesel making 140kW and 400Nm arrives later in 2017.
Transmission
This 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is making its debut in a ŠKODA. It is a variant that has been designed for powerful engines with torque of up to 600Nm. The transmission is a very compact construction and enables quick and comfortable gear changing.
The driver can operate in the automatic Drive and Sport mode or take control manually using the gear lever or the steering wheel paddles. When Eco mode is selected in the optional Driving Mode Select, the car is taken out of gear: as soon as the driver takes their foot off the accelerator at a speed above 20 km/h, drive is disengaged – the KODIAQ is coasting.
Both top-of-the-range engines are coupled with the 7-speed DSG and all-wheel drive – a new combination for ŠKODA. The centrepiece of the all-wheel-drive is an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. The all-wheel-drive system works intelligently and quickly. The control unit constantly calculates the ideal driving torque for the rear axle; loss of traction is virtually eliminated
due to a control system that is dependent on driving status. When in overrun or at low load, drive is via the front axle, which saves fuel.
Chassis
The chassis of the ŠKODA KODIAQ is also the result of concentrated expertise. The components of the MacPherson front struts consist partially of aluminium; the steel four-link rear axle absorbs the longitudinal and transverse forces separately. The power steering, using an effi cient electro-mechanical drive, ensures exact contact with the road and works in close harmony with several assistance systems in the ŠKODA KODIAQ.
19-inch wheels are standard. The brakes – with large ventilated brake discs at the front – are strong and stable. When cornering quickly, the electronic diff erential lock XDL+, which is a function of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), makes handling even smoother and safer for both front- and all-wheel drive.
As an optional extra, ŠKODA is making Driving Mode Selection available in the KODIAQ in the optional Tech Pack. It allows the driver to adjust the operation of the engine and transmission management, power steering, air conditioning and other systems in Normal, Eco, Sport and Individual modes.
The all-wheel-drive versions off er Snow mode on top of this, which is designed for driving on roads and does not have a speed limit. Snow mode adapts the operation of the ABS, ASR and ACC (if fitted) systems, as well as the engine management and electronically controlled, all-wheel, multi-plate clutch to slippery and snow-covered roads.
Adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) is also included in the Tech Pack and integrated into Driving Mode Selection. Here, electric valves control the work of the shock absorbers depending on the situation. Combined with Driving Mode Selection, the system adapts to the driving style of the driver and manoeuvres the driver safely on the road. Using DCC, the driver can choose between Comfort, Normal or Sport modes.
The ŠKODA KODIAQ keeps going when the paved road ends. Off -road mode can be selected by the simple touch of a button (optional for the all-wheel-drive versions in combination with Driving Mode Selection). Here, the chassis, engine management and brakes adjust their operation specifi cally to rough terrain. This mainly involves pulling away, traction and deceleration. In off -road mode, Hill Descent Assist helps the driver to master driving downhill over rough terrain by braking appropriately.
The KODIAQ is off ered with two unique technology and style packs:
Tech Pack
The Tech Pack features a wealth of innovative systems, including Adaptive Chassis Control with Driving Mode Selection, a virtual pedal – hands-free electric tailgate opening and closing, a premium CANTON sound system with 10 speakers and digital equalizer, Automatic Parking Assist, Manoeuvre Braking Assist, Personalisation (vehicle setup) via key, and an off road mode – a driving assistant for diffi cult conditions.
