Raised level of confidence for rural workers
Yamaha Motor Australia is pleased to introduce the all new fuel injected Kodiak 450. The new mid-class 4x4 ATV is poised to replace the outgoing legendary Grizzly 450 workhorse.
Yamaha engineers listened to farmers when developing this new mid-size bear. They wanted more off-road capability, more comfort and more convenience. The new Kodiak delivers this in spades.
A new chassis combines with a wider footprint and an extremely roomy riding position that accommodates even larger riders comfortably. Big steps have been taken to ensure Kodiak combines real world tough with easy to ride for farmers taking on the toughest terrain right down to the first time ATV user.
Kodiak combines this class-leading handling with a torque-rich 421cc fuel injected engine with Yamaha's legendary durability and reliability.
New chassis for supreme handling
Kodiak 450 has class-leading, precise and responsive handling with the best combination of comfort and confidence.
In addition to a roomier riding position, the new chassis features great weight distribution and light steering. New responsive dual A-arm suspension provides a wider track width – up to 80mm wider than the previous Yamaha 450 ATV – for a more stable footprint. Longer stroke suspension with greater travel than previous mid-size ATVs makes molehills out of mountains.
Durable new 25in tyres with new tread pattern are among the biggest in class and provide maximum traction and durability along with all-day comfort in a variety of terrain and conditions.
All new ergonomics
The improved riding position is achieved with raised handlebars, a larger and plusher seat, repositioned gear shifter and larger foot wells that allows easy movement for an active ride. Because an active ATV rider is a safe one.
The new nimble chassis with superior handling allows this ATV to bridge the gap between the entry-level customer who values comfort and confidence, and the experienced rider who seeks precise handling and class-leading off-road performance.
A wide, serrated footrest in the floorboard provides superior rider comfort and grip. Revised ergos contnue with intuitive controls and a redesigned thumb throttle lever with a wider, flatter shape for less fatigue on those long days in the saddle.
Torque-rich engine
The Kodiak 450 features a 421cc fuel-injected single-cylinder engine created to provide the perfect balance of responsive power with all-day comfort for the demanding farmer.
Power is matched to a lower CVT shift setting to provide a seamless delivery at lower rpm for a relaxed riding experience and lower fuel consumption. And new rubber mounts reduce engine noise and vibration. The result leaves you relaxed and in control after a long day in the saddle.
Feeding the powerplant is Yamaha's fuel injection system that starts easier in cold weather and provides consistent fuel delivery in all conditions.
Yamaha core technologies
Yamaha's Ultramatic® automatic transmission is the industry's most durable automatic CVT system. The system's centrifugal clutch maintains constant belt tension which eliminates slipping and slamming of the belt at idle or engaged. This smooth progressioon prolongs belt wear, reduces heat and improves durability.
Ultramatic also incorporates a sprag clutch to provide the most natural-feeling all-wheel downhill engine braking and eliminates freewheeling for increased comfort and confidence even in rough, technical terrain.
Yamaha's rider-controlled On-Command® 4WD System with 2WD and limited-slip 4WD eliminates hesitation or slipping while waiting for a computer to engage, which is common in some competitive models.
Kodiak's Electric Power Steering (EPS) offers light steering and precise handling. By providing the industry's best balance of assist and positive feedback from the trail, Yamaha's EPS system delivers maximum comfort and confidence for working or recreational riders.
Real world tough and easy to service
The Kodiak has a new easy to maintain intake system - the air filter can be accessed without tools by simply removing the seat and unclipping the filter lid by hand. There you will find an oiled foam filter designed to combat the type of dusty conditions typically found on Aussie farms.
All the plastics are new and the fenders have a tough scratch resistant finish to keep your ATV looking better for longer while a new handlebar mounted headlight will help on those dark early mornings and late afternoons on the farm.
In addition to its industry leading drive system and real world tough engine, Kodiak features marine grade electrical conectors and full under frame protection with easy service access.
Braking is handled at the bars with two levers with an additional foot pedal that operates an oil bath rear brake – enclosed away from the elements for fade free performance and super low maintenance.
This may be a mid-size ATV but it has the appetite for tough work. Racks can carry up to 40kg (front) and 80kg (rear) and are easy to tie down onto with a tough crinkle finish. Kodiak can also tow up to 600kg.
A new digital LCD meter featurers a large screen that contains all the information you need including fuel gauge, speedometer, odometer, trip meter, service meter, hour meter, 4WD indicator status, N/R/P gear indicator, engine warning light, water temperature warning light and EPS warning light. And there's even a 12v power outlet to keep your smart phone charging in the bottom paddock.
These features combine to give you the comfort, confidence and convenience you would expect from a Yamaha ATV.
Accessory integration
One of the great features about the Kodiak 450 is the advanced accessory integration including a variety of specificall-developed accessories.
Kodiak 450 comes pre-wired for a winch and the factory mounting plate kit makes for easy installation.
New Kodiak 450 Genuine Yamaha overfenders ensure the best fit, finish and function while other accessories include ATV gun boot mounts, rack extensions, cooler carriers, and more.

Kodiak is available in AUS from August 2017 in two variants – EPS and standard non-power steer. The EPS model comes with a worklight while the non-power steer model does not. Both models are fitted with steel wheels and are available in Steel Blue colour scheme.
