The APC Rally has fast become an event of great interest to
adventure riders. Offering a challenging 14 day course the rally
covers over 7,500km passing through some of the best scenery and
tracks the country has to offer from the Eastern seaboard mountain
ranges to the wide open deserts of outback Australia.
The rally has attracted a range of riders; their artillery
ranging from 250cc enduro machines to 1200cc adventure tourers. As
a result, a consistent question has arisen 'What is the perfect
bike for long and diverse adventure touring?'
For one of Australia's motor-sporting greats, GP Winner and
SPEED TV presenter Kevin Magee, the answer is Triumph's Tiger 800
XC.
Magee, a Speed Triple owner, having never completed such an
extraordinary rally is keen to get out there and experience
Australia in this unique and exclusive event. "I've done my share
of both road and off road riding, I've spent minimal time on true
adventure touring machines and this rally just screams excitement.
I followed the event last year with great interest. I saw from
around the traps what people were riding and how the bikes were
setup. The Tiger 800 XC spec seemed like just the right mix, great
payload for carrying the essential hardware; tools, luggage, fuel,
camping gear etc. I've recently ridden the XC and I loved the power
on the dirt, the bold excel rims and the thumping 800cc power just
does it for me. I can't wait to get out there. We're bringing along
