The news is finally out! The brand new Honda CRF150R and
CRF150RB (Big Wheel) motocross bikes will be on Australian shores
very shortly.
In keeping with the revolutionary CRF450R and CRF250R, Honda's new
150cc four-stroke machines are destined to redefine the small
displacement motocross category.
In fact, the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has
stated that manufacturers have agreed unanimously that from January
1 next year 150cc 4-strokes can compete in the 85cc 2-stroke
class.
What you will find inside the bike's lightweight, high-tensile
steel frame is a compact yet powerful four-stroke 149cc
liquid-cooled four-valve Unicam engine that produces impressive
power across a wide rpm range for easy-to-control operation.
Minimisation of weight is, in fact, a huge factor in this little
winner evident in its handlebar-mounted hotstart system, low-carbon
steel crankshaft, forged slipper piston and rings, aluminium
swingarm, vertically split crankcases with built-in oil pump, and
exhaust system that uses a lightweight stainless exhaust header and
repackable aluminium muffler.
The 32mm Keihin FCR offers very light throttle effort, smooth
operation, crisp throttle response and excellent rideability, also
evident through its unique front and rear suspension settings that
deliver ideal bump absorption.
The bikes' adjustable Showa cartridge front fork features a
friction-reducing design to improve compression and rebound
control, whilst the Pro-Link rear-suspension system features a
fully adjustable Showa shock for superb compliance and wheel
control.
Lightweight front and rear disc brakes with high-performance
pads offer powerful, precise braking. The CRF150R also features an
HRC works-type rear-brake system and an adjustable front-brake
lever and master-cylinder assembly that mimics CR125R/CR250R
components.
Rider comfort and good looks are, of course, integral to the
machine's design with lightweight plastic body components in place
to offer a slim, aggressive style.
At a recommended retail price of only $6790 for the CRF150R and
$7190 for the RB version (excluding Dealer delivery), these models
are destined to make a serious impact on the small capacity
motocross market. Both bikes will be available from early October.
