8 September 2008 - The time has come to announce what's in store
for Honda's mad motocross fans with the all new 2009 CRF450R.
Plenty of rumours have been circulating over the past few months
as to whether the bike will have electronic fuel injection, and the
world's largest engine manufacturer has responded in the positive
with a complete overhaul that moves off road riding to a whole new
level.
Honda has not only added a revolutionary EFI system, but has
also managed to reduce overall weight by completely redesigning the
engine, frame, bodywork and suspension package. It is the first
time since the bike's introduction in 2002 that punters will see
much more than just evolutionary changes, and even though extra
components have been added, the overall weight has still been
reduced.
Honda's EFI system is revolutionary in that it uses a plastic
fuel pump, improving reliability whilst reducing overall weight.
The system also provides for improved air flow compared to the
previous model and includes a Honda patented throttle body design
offering optimum drivability.
Cold and hot starting has never been easier due to the EFI's 12
hole injector nozzle which targets the valve more efficiently than
a carburettor can.
In addition to the battery-less EFI system, the '09 CRF450R
offers a new lighter, more compact engine, as well as a new four
spring clutch based on US race team designs that aim to get the
revs up quicker.
All of the bodywork has also been completely redesigned and
includes a new smart looking fuel tank, seat, fenders, radiator
shrouds and side plates all mounted on a lighter frame.
Like many road bikes, the CRF450R's 'kill' button incorporates
an engine management LED indicator that offers warning codes,
whilst its new Kayaba front and Honda exclusive rear suspension
offer easier adjustment and better mass centralisation.
The CRF450R is set to redefine the class with early US based
testing times showing the bike is quicker and more manageable than
ever before.
The bike will be on display for the first time this
weekend at the Dirt Bike Masters, this Sunday 7 September at
Pakenham Racecourse in Victoria. The new CRF450R will also
be on show at each round of the Australasian Supercross
Championships commencing in October.
Available in Australia late November, recommended retail for the
CRF450R has just been announced.....$11590.
