BMW Motorrad is pleased to introduce the new Rider Equipment ranger for 2009.

Focused on innovation, style and functionality the new range of products caters for the most discerning motorcycle rider. From complete suits, consisting of a jacket and trouser to a new one piece suit, new gloves, functional wear, luggage and safety gear the 2009 collection has something for everyone.

New to the programme for 2009 is the CoverAll suit that is waterproof, windproof, breathable and has built in protection and designed to wear over clothing.

Other suits featured in the range, replace their highly successful predecessor models: the Streetguard 3 suit as the comfortable all-rounder, the Trailguard suit as the all-rounder for on-road and off-road use and the ventilated AirFlow suit for hot days. In each case, the new models reflect a significant increase in functionality.

Like all BMW Rider Equipment only high-quality materials are used with a first-class finish to guarantee optimum wear comfort and utility value.

The same applies to the new Allround 2 gloves suitable for riding throughout the year, the sporty Windbreaker jacket, the PCM functional undersuit 2 with membrane technology from aerospace research and the shirts and T-Shirts of the Silver Function product line.

Even greater safety and comfort is offered by the new Protector jacket 2 and the new Protector vest. The new items HipBag 2, Stuffbag 2 and Function 2 Rucksack are practical items for use on the road.

Streetguard 3 suit - comfortable all-rounder.

The Streetguard 3 suit is the top item in the 2009 BMW Motorrad collection. It enables the rider to stand up to virtually any weather and also cuts a great figure - not only because of the modern design. The new suit bears the stamp of experienced motorcyclists who attached importance to a high level of practical suitability during the development stage. As a result, wear comfort has once again been perceptibly improved as compared to the predecessor model.

The upper material is a new three-layer laminate developed exclusively with and for BMW Motorrad (Keprotec/Dynatec). This means that abrasion and impact resistance, tear and frictional heat resistance have been improved as compared to the predecessor version by around 20 per cent.
What is more, the suit now has a so-called ColdBlack coating on the outside - in the black sections - for the first time. These reflect up to 80 per cent of sunlight and thus provide effective protection from heat and UV radiation, and the suit remains cool for a perceptibly longer period even in bright sunshine.

The intelligent c_change membrane on the inside makes the suit windproof and waterproof as well as highly breathable. The jacket also has a removable high collar and practical sleeve sheaths for a waterproof transition to the gloves.

The zips in the upper arm area are also waterproof as well as providing additional ventilation. And if the weather turns particularly frosty, the removable high-quality 3M Thinsulate lining provides optimum insulation.

A high trouser waistband with fleece lamination on the inside also prevents a unpleasant cold gap from forming. In this way, the rider is well-equipped for all weathers and can concentrate fully on the road.

At the front the jacket is fitted with a single special zip (STORMzip) which is designed so that wind and water cannot penetrate. This means that the double construction with labyrinth is no longer required. Comparably water-resistant (AQUAzip) zips are also to be found in the outside pockets.

Other new features which demonstrate that the development of this product is based on the experience of practicians are the radiation-screening, interior mobile phone pocket and the two waterproof inside jacket pockets. Safety is a major factor too, of course. For this reason, the suit is now completely fitted with the NP protectors developed by BMW Motorrad with optimum damping properties. They are located on the back, shoulders and elbows, at the hip and knees (three height adjustment positions). A tailbone protector can be retrofitted.

In order to ensure that the rider can be easily seen even when visibility is poor, a reflective fabric has been integrated on the front and back and on the side of the trouser legs. The BMW symbol is to be found on the rivets of the jacket and trousers.

Women and men have different body proportions of course, so the versions for ladies and men differ not only in design but also in cut. This ensures a perfect fit and optimum wear comfort is for both sexes.

The Streetguard 3 suit is available in black in the women’s sizes 36-46, 72-88 and 18-22 and in men’s sizes 46-66, 98-118 and 25-32. In order to create further space for personal taste, the jacket is also offered in the colour combination Black/Grey/Orange in men’s sizes 46-60 and in women’s sizes 36-46.

Like all textile suits in the BMW Motorrad program, this one is also machine washable.

CoverAll suit - the second skin for everyday wear.

Another enrichment of the range of BMW Motorrad suits is the completely newly developed single-section CoverAll suit. It is light but still fulfils all the requirements of a modern and safe motorcycle suit. It is windproof and waterproof, breathable and fitted with protectors.

The great advantage of this new product is that is suitable for daily commuting to the office as well as being predestined for all rides to destinations where one wishes to arrive in “normal” clothing, in spite of being dressed for motorcycling: it can easily be worn over work clothes and is quick to put on and take off.

This is because of the special waterproof zips at the front and the on the legs, where they run from the hip to the ankle (STORMzip). To achieve a perfect fit, the waist size can be adjusted by means of two side straps.

The suit is made of three-layer laminate with Cordura 500, climate membrane and laminated inner lining. In order to keep out splash water and rain, all seams are taped.

This new suit concept naturally fulfils the high safety standards of BMW Motorrad. Removable, very light SC protectors made of viscoelastic foam at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees (with two height adjustment levels) protect the rider. The NP ProAir back protector can be retrofitted as an accessory. All protector pockets in this suit are not sewn on but welded. To ensure the rider can still be seen when visibility is poor, there are reflective prints on the shoulders and back.

Abundant space for travel items is provided by the two trouser pockets, the outer water-repellent breast pocket, the waterproof inside pocket and the sleeve pocket on the left lower arm.

The CoverAll suit is available in black in the unisex sizes XS to XXXL.

Trailguard suit - all-rounder for on-road and off-road.

This new suit is the worthy successor to the successful Santiago suit. The Trailguard suit also fulfils all requirements of a functional motorcycle suit with touring capabilities and shows excellent form both on-road and off-road. In design, material selection and colour variations, the new model is even more self-assured than its predecessors, with improvements in virtually all disciplines.

The versatile upper surface material Dynatec (Schoeller) makes this suit extremely abrasion-resistant but also permeable to air and breathable - though without making any compromises in terms of safety.

Anyone who wishes to wear the Trailguard suit in all weathers can make it windproof and waterproof by simply adding the GORE-TEX® insert textile which is available as an accessory.

The suit is generous in size and has different cuts for men and women. Size adjustment is by means of straps, Velcro bars, side zips (women’s jacket) and drawstrings (men’s jacket) at the waist, trouser waistband, collar and hem. Pre-shaped sleeves and knees, movement folds and stretch materials at the right places provide maximum freedom of movement. The leather on the inside of the knees provides a firm grip on the fuel tank trim during off-road travel.

Ventilation zips on the chest, back, sleeves and thighs with an outer coating and air-permeable net lining ensure maximum comfort.

For optimum passive safety, the Trailguard suit is fitted with NP protectors developed by BMW Motorrad on the back, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees (three height adjustment positions).

At the shoulders, back, arms and thighs there are also large reflector applications which ensure that the motorcyclist can be identified in good time at dusk or in fog.

A love of detail and practical orientation is demonstrated by the numerous inside and outside pockets in both jacket and trousers, with one waterproof pocket in the jacket.

The BMW wordmark is embroidered on the decorative Velcro tab on left side of chest. The BMW logo is integrated as a rivet on the jacket and trousers. The Trailguard suit is available in two colour versions: the jacket is available in Black/Silver with black trousers in women’s sizes 34-46 and in men’s sizes 46-66, 98-118 or 25-32.

The second colour combination consists of a jacket in Mocca/Limestone with trousers in Mocca (women: 34-46; men: 46-60).

AirFlow suit - stay cool on hot days.

The resilient summer AirFlow suit starts the 2009 season in two colour versions (Black and Silver) for jacket and trousers. This suit in abrasion resistant Dynatec upper material and highly air permeable AirTex net material means that the rider will not get into a sweat so easily - even on hot days in urban traffic.

The two colour versions, naturally bearing reflector strips, are quite different in conception: the version in black non-metallic has a reflective ColdBlack surface which prevents the suit from getting too hot in the sunshine. By contrast, the silver-grey version with matching colour print has a so-called NanoSphere feature which provides protection from excessive soiling.

What is new about this suit is that it now has highly effective NP protectors at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees (three height adjustment positions). Another new feature is the specially developed ProAir back protection with a large number of vents for excellent air circulation in the back area.

Another advantage of this versatile suit with its numerous pockets: if the jacket is not needed it can be worn like a rucksack due to two integrated carry straps. The all-round, 40-centimetre connecting zips also enable it to be combined with other jackets and trousers from the BMW Motorrad collection. The BMW symbols are to be seen on the rivets of both jacket and trousers.

The AirFlow suit is available for women in both colour versions in sizes 34-46. For men the suit is offered in black in sizes 46-66 and 98-118, in silver in sizes 46-60.

ComfortShell suit - the climate suit now available in red.

The ComfortShell suit comes out in a new, fashionable colour in spring 2009. In addition to the existing colours black and blue, the jacket is now also available in red, while the trousers that go with it are still available in black.

With its exemplary climate and wear comfort, the material technology used in this suit is familiar but still revolutionary. The “intelligent” and elastic c_change membrane in three-layer laminate opens its structure in warm temperatures and closes when the temperature drops. This means that surplus body heat and moisture can escape in summer, while in winter the heat is kept inside and prevents the wearer from feeling the chill.

This all-weather touring suit is both windproof and waterproof. Water-repellent vent zips on the front and back provide the rider with additional fresh air on hot days.

The removable NP protectors with optimum damping properties ensure a high degree of passive safety in this product, too. The protectors are located at the shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees (two height adjustment positions).

The ComfortShell suit is available in all three colours in the women’s sizes 34-46 and men’s sizes 46-60. In addition, the suit is also available in black and blue in women’s sizes 17-22 and men’s sizes 98-110. The discreet BMW symbol is to be seen on the rivets of both jacket and trousers.

Gloves.

Allround 2 gloves .

The waterproof Allround 2 gloves can be worn all year round, are lightly quilted and have been revised for the upcoming motorcycle season. Due to the combination of a leather-textile mixture with a breathable and yet waterproof membrane, these touring gloves cannot be penetrated by either wind or water.

The leather, discreetly patterned with embossed lines, is doubled at vulnerable points and at the ball of the thumb with resilient aramide fabric (Keprotec) underlay. In the knuckle area the gloves are reinforced with abrasion resistant nylon including a 5 millimetre layer of protective Suprotec foam.

Practical features such as the rubber wiper lip for the helmet visor, the pre-shaped fingers for improved grip, wrist adjustment straps, a large Velcro strap on the cuff and the long light reflector area along the edge of the hand show that these gloves were created by professionals who know what counts.

The Allround 2 gloves are available in sizes 6-6½ to 12-12½ in black. The BMW Motorrad wordmark is to be found on the wrist adjustment strap.

AirFlow 2 gloves.

The familiar and highly popular light summer gloves AirFlow 2 will also be available in a new colour this spring in addition to black. The new colour version silver-grey replaces the previous colour sand. The grip flap in orange also adds a small colour contrast to this new model.

The established material mixture of leather with air-permeable, tear-resistant AirTex net fabric with doubled leather at exposed points. These also have a foam underlay. This light glove is well known for its excellent fit and offers a particular advantage due to the vent openings between the fingers. The unstuffed palm makes for very direct, satisfying grip.

A short cuff made of neoprene provides excellent grip and the leather strap on the upper hand allows the gloves to be adjusted in width, too.

The AirFlow 2 gloves are available in the sizes 6-6½ to 12-12½, the BMW Motorrad wordmark is embossed on the leather strap on the upper side.

Functional wear.

Windbreaker jacket - an ideal addition for cool days.
The functional and practical Windbreaker jacket is especially for those motorcyclists who wear a suit without climate membrane - an ideal supplementary garment in cool weather. The Windbreaker jacket has a continuous zip at the front and two zip-up side pockets on the outside.

The seams are sealed on the outside, making the suit both windproof and water-repellent.
Due to the high-quality three-layer laminate with a new and even more high performance PU membrane to improve breathability, it is not only excellently suited to motorcycling but also to other sports and leisure activities.

The slim design offers perfect wear comfort even under motorcycle clothing. The fleece laminate on the inside and the extended back section keep the body warm. The high, slim stand-up collar not only looks good, it also acts as a perfect retainer of body heat.

The jacket is available in the women’s sizes XS-S and the unisex-sizes M-XXXL. The BMW wordmark is printed at the rear, underneath the collar.

Silver Function line - smart and functional.

The Silver Function long-sleeve shirt and the Silver Function T-Shirt are presented for the new season in fresh, attractive colours with a novel finishing technology.

The long-sleeve shirt is available in black, the T-Shirt in azure and dark grey. Both shirts are made of 100 per cent polyester and are therefore easy-care and quick-drying and thus ideally complement the function of the climate membranes in BMW Motorrad textile suits. The high-quality fabric, with permanent silver ionisation, is antimicrobacterial which makes it odourinhibiting.

Net inserts under the arms ensure additional ventilation. Some material transitions are not sewn but permanently bonded so as to improve wear comfort: this makes them extremely fl at so they can hardly be felt.

The shirts of the Silver Function line are available in the slim cut women’s sizes XS to S and in the unisex-sizes M to XXXL. The BMW Motorrad wordmark is printed on the back.

The thin Functional Fleece Top offers similar properties. It is available in the colour marine. The sizes XS to S are especially for women, the sizes M to XXXL are unisex sizes.

With its high-quality polyester and web quality with excellent grip, the khaki-coloured Function shirt is also quick-drying and easy-care. Here again the fabric is silver ionised, making it antimicrobacterial and odour-inhibiting.

Shirts and Jackets - practical, sporty and resilient.

The wide range of fashionable lifestyle products gives BMW Motorrad riders the possibility not just to look good but also to show themselves clearly to be fans of a powerful brand. This is because all tops, shirts and jackets in the BMW Motorrad rider equipment program bear the BMW Motorrad wordmark and in some cases the BMW symbol.

Among others, the two new T-Shirts BMW Type and BMW Sport Type reflect the wearer’s clear commitment to BMW Motorrad. The new coloured designation “GFRK” stands for the four BMW Motorrad model series and appears as a striking print on the front or else as a rubber label.

The high-quality cotton, with additional elastane content in the women’s models, guarantees a high degree of wear comfort; the close-fitting, tapered cut of the women’s T-Shirts in the sizes XS to XXL differs from the cool, fashionable cut of the men’s sizes S to XXXL.

The T-Shirt BMW Type is available in light blue (women) and dark blue (men). The T-Shirt Sport Type is available for women in dark red and for men in marine.

The fashionable T-Shirt Jump 2 in 100 per cent cotton is additionally available in the elegant new colour stone grey for the 2009 season. A completely new addition to range in 2009 is the fashionable Type Jacket. It is made of cotton compound fabric (cotton/polyester), is pleasant to wear due to the roughened inside and reflects a particularly sporty style with its hood and high-quality finish with contrasting yarns. Elasticised woollen cuffs and bottom edge and two scoop pockets highlight the jacket’s laid back look.

The conspicuously styled “GFRK” print on the right-hand sleeve is a real eye-catcher. The black jacket is available in women’s sizes XS to S, as well as in unisex-sizes M to XXXL. The BMW wordmark is located on the left arm.

The Sports sweatshirt jacket 2 is presented in a new colour but in the familiar high quality. The colour blue offers an interesting contrast to the “BMW Motorrad” motif on the front.

The slim cut in women’s sizes XS to S and the unisex-sizes M to XXXL guarantee a perfect fit under motorcycle clothing, as a leisure jacket or for sports.

Cosy warmth and active breathing climate comfort on cool days is provided by the Function Fleece Jacket. The extremely dense and high-quality polyester fleece is supported by windbreaker material in the tightly closing collar and chest area. The jacket has two side zip pockets.

The slim-cut women’s version of the Function Fleece Jacket is available in dark grey in the sizes XS to XXL, the men’s version comes in black-brown in the sizes S to XXXL.

PCM functional undersuit 2 - high-tech fabric for underneath.

What do BMW Motorrad riders have in common with astronauts? They both use suits which make the most of an innovative, climate-regulating fabric. This is because the newly-designed two-section PCM functional undersuit 2 uses a high-tech fabric derived from aerospace research which is known as Phase Change Material (PCM).

PCM contains microcapsules filled with paraffins which store body heat. When the outside temperature drops, this heat is passed back to the body in controlled doses. This temperature balancing process works best at outside temperatures of between 5° C and 15 °C. In the PCM functional undersuit 2, this innovative material is used at points which are especially sensitive to cold, i.e. the chest, upper arm, kidney and thigh areas.

The elastic thermal fleece material with fleece lining is very pleasant to wear, breathable, quick-drying and easy-care. A practical new feature is the addition of two zip-up side jacket pockets.
The PCM functional undersuit 2 is now offered in a new look in black with offset green fl at seams and can of course be worn for other purposes than motorcycling, too. It is also ideally suited to use in connection with other sports and leisure activities.

The PCM functional undersuit 2 is available in sizes S to XXL. The BMW Motorrad wordmark appears as a striking print in green on the left upper arm and left thigh.

Balaclavas, neck warmers - for any time of year.

The 2009 collection offers three new balaclavas for varying temperature ranges: they are all classic balaclavas with varying levels of wind protection. The high-quality materials and seamless finish or fl at seams ensure a high level of wear comfort beneath the helmet.

The Silk balaclava is made of 100 per cent high-quality elastic silk and has a temperature-regulating effect in summer.

The Summer balaclava is also designed for the summer and warmer periods in between. The material mixture consists of polyester, elastane and antimicrobacterial fabric (Ultra-Fresh), is skin-friendly and ensures a perfect fit and a high level of wear comfort. Silk and Summer are available in black in the sizes M and L.

The Windbreaker 2 balaclava in high-quality polyester fleece with windbreaker membrane is intended for the winter and cold days in general. It provides outstanding wind protection at the neck and upper chest area and perfectly covers the area between helmet and jacket collar. The black balaclava Windbreaker 2 is available in the sizes S to L.

Also in polyester fleece with windbreaker membrane are the new neck warmers which provide a useful supplement to the balaclavas Silk and Summer. The classic neck warmer is available in black in the sizes S to L.

Safety.

Neck-Brace-System Function - maximum safety at an attractive price.

In order to increase passive safety when motorcycling even further, BMW Motorrad introduced a revolutionary neck protection system in 2007 which provides very efficient protection from cervical spine injury while still being very comfortable to wear.

As of 2009, a more economical version of this is available, the Neck Brace System Function. The upper and lower section of this version are made of fibre glass reinforced plastic (GRP).

This protective system in no way limits the motorcyclist’s freedom of movement and significantly reduces the risk of injury to the cervical spine and collarbone. The helmet is supported both laterally and longitudinally on the Neck Brace system, thereby minimising the danger of over-stretching or compression of the cervical spine.

The new basic version weighs around 800 grams: this is about 100 grams heavier but the exemplary high level of safety provided is identical to that of the top version made of carbon components which will be offered in future under the name of Neck Brace System Carbon. The easy-care textile cover with foam padding can be removed for washing.

The Neck Brace System Function can easily be adapted to the height and stature of the rider and clothing in use. With two quick-release fasteners it is easy to put on and is available in anthracite, sizes S and L.

Protector jacket 2 and Protector vest - perfect protection for the worst case.

The safety package of the BMW Motorrad rider equipment range has another option to offer with the new Protector jacket 2 which offers optimum protection for the entire upper section of the body - and not only for sports enduro riders.

Both the newly developed, three-dimensional pre-formed back protector and the NP joint protectors at shoulders and elbow have extremely good impact absorption levels. Perfect all-round protection is derived from the combination of inserted PU protector material, removable inserts in the chest area and the impact-absorbing EVA elements (ethylene vinyl acetate) in the upper arm and lateral rib sections.

The ergonomically perfect cut, the elastic joint protectors, the adjustable and removable kidney belt and the highly elastic thumb loops ensure a perfect fit and the necessary freedom of movement. The high level of wear comfort is also supported by perforated protectors and air-permeable net material, as well as a new 3D spacer fabric in the back area.

The Protector jacket 2 is available in the sizes S, M, L and XL in black. The BMW Motorrad wordmark is integrated below the spine protector and in the form of a rubber application on the kidney belt clasp.

The new Protector vest is slightly more compact. Due to its three dimensionally pre-shaped back protector it proves a perfect fit and optimum protection for the cervical spine. In addition, the collarbone is protected from contact with the edge of the helmet by means of inlaid protector material. The kidney area is also excellently protected. The Protector vest can in fact be worn under any jacket or suit.

The anatomically pre-shaped back element of the Protector vest is identical to that of the Protector jacket 2, being excellently ventilated due to the ventilation chambers and the three-dimensional spacer fabric. The continuously adjustable chest clasp, the shoulder strap and the kidney strap ensure a perfect fit.

The Protector vest is available in the sizes S to XL in black with blue. The BMW Motorrad wordmark is integrated in the form of a rubber application on the kidney belt clasp and also below the spine protector.

Luggage.

MessengerBag and HipBag 2 - ideal for everyday use.

The new shoulder bag MessengerBag is designed for use both on and off the motorcycle. The bag is large enough to hold a wide A4 binder and a notebook computer, for example. Stable edge protectors at the bottom corners and a padded inner pocket protect the contents. Under the top of the main compartment there are also two small additional storage compartments. The water-repellent main compartment is closed by means of a zip, and the rigid, padded back panel and additional handle ensure optimum carrying comfort. The adjustable shoulder straps and removable hip belt allow the bag to be attached securely when motorcycling.

The new anthracite-coloured HipBag 2 is ideal for documents and the diverse items one tends to take on a day trip. With a volume of around 5 litres, it offers abundant space for it contents: a main compartment with an all-round two-way zip, a small net bag in the top cover, a holder for small drink bottles (secured by means of an adjustable rubber strap) and finally another small zip pocket.

The matching waterproof rain cover in signal colour can be stowed at the bottom of the bag. The hip carrying strap is adjustable to continuously variable lengths and the practical shoulder strap can be removed. When the hip strap is stowed behind the back pad, the bag can also be used as a shoulder bag.

Stuffbag 2 and Function 2 Rucksack - they can take really take stuff!

Anyone who sets out on a major trip on their motorcycle would be well advised to take along the new Stuffbag 2. With a volume of up to 50 litres it has a high capacity and is completely waterproof.

The roll in robust polyester with stable rubber coating is about 60 centimetres long, is available in the colour silver and has a diagonal, waterproof zip which is especially useful when packing.

While riding the padded handles can be secured under the reversible zip bag made of conspicuous reflector material in signal colour. The length-adjustable shoulder strap can be removed if necessary.

The roll can be secured conveniently across the motorcycle or lengthwise by means of a removable, stable EVA base panel. There are also a total of eight length-adjustable straps which enable the bag to be easily lashed onto virtually any motorcycle. This carefully conceived attachment system means that the roll can be opened without actually taking it off the motorcycle.

The new Function 2 Rucksack is equally practical. The rucksack is an elegant dark grey/black colour, has a capacity y of about 35 litres, is waterproof and looks good too - not just on a motorcycle.

The anatomically shaped back section is well rear-ventilated and is therefore comfortable to carry. The shoulder straps are adjustable, as are the hip and chest strap. At the two longitudinal sides there are not just net pockets with zips but also lashing belts. This allows the rucksack to be appropriately secured so as to avoid fl uttering in the wind. Other luggage items can also be secured under these lashing belts with plug clasps.

In addition to the cover compartment with water-repellent zip, a helmet can also be stowed under the cover pocket - another indication of the high utility value of this rucksack. This practical design is also underlined by the fact that the bag offers extremely simple and fast access to its contents through the top cover and an all-round zip in the area of the back padding. Here there is direct access to the main compartment when the helmet is stowed under the rucksack cover.

The 2009 collection also offers new colours for the two classic caps for all BMW Motorrad fans. The fashionable BMW Motorrad Cap is stone grey, elaborately finished and has BMW Motorrad lettering in a distinct colour. The Logo Cap with the classic six-panel design is dark blue with the BMW Motorrad wordmark in contrasting colour. At the front a plastic BMW symbol is sewn on in a central position.

The high-quality cotton and continuously variable adjustment by means of metal clasps with BMW embossing round off the excellent wear comfort of these two caps.

The lanyard in the colour combination marine-orange and the classic Key Fob 2 in black are practical companions for all BMW Motorrad fans. Both of these lifestyle items have the BMW symbol and wordmark woven into them in a contrasting colour.
