Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Walkinshaw have today signed off on the final outgoing-generation Amarok W Series in luxurious and tough style – with a W580SE final edition as build number 2,600.
The Volkswagen Amarok W580SE rolled off Walkinshaw's Clayton, Victoria, production line to cap off a successful first-generation Amarok partnership with an authentically Australian and German engineered dual-cab ute flavour.
The statistics are remarkable for a less-than-two-year production run that commenced in March, 2021.
Of the 2,600 Walkinshaw-engineered Amaroks built at the company's Clayton, Victoria, production facility, 1,555 were built in 2022 until today's end-of-line.
The total production figures by model grade include:
- Volkswagen Amarok W580: 458 units
- Volkswagen Amarok W580S: 1,419 units
- Volkswagen Amarok W580X: 599 units
- Volkswagen Amarok W580SE: 99 units
- Pilot builds and other: 25 units
There were up to 99 unique parts featured (on the W580X) from 26 suppliers supporting around 50 local staff.
As a farewell to the enormously successful outgoing, first-generation Amarok, the W580SE blends features from the offroad-tough W580X with the luxury of the W580S, priced from $86,990 plus on-road costs.
It takes the touring-focused W580S and adds the 75-watt LED light bar with integrated switch from the offroad-focused W580X launched earlier this year. It further adds spray in tub liner and Nappa leather interior seats with WAG headrest branding as W580SE exclusives.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles director Ryan Davies thanked Walkinshaw for their expertise and professionalism in delivering a successful project.
"Australians have voted with their wallets to make 90% of Amarok sales the class leading diesel V6 and 20% of Amarok sales a Walkinshaw engineered variant," Mr Davies said.
"This is testimony to both the fundamentals of this first generation Amarok, which have helped influence and shape the incoming second generation model, and the great design and engineering of Walkinshaw.
"Having taken what makes this Amarok great and moved it to the next level with the imminent all-new second-generation Amarok, we are enthused to begin talks on what's next for Volkswagen and Walkinshaw."
The all-new second-generation Volkswagen Amarok will arrive in Australia in April 2023 after having 20 Volkswagen designers and engineers stationed in Australia for more than three years working on the all-new ute – a ute that will sell in greater numbers here than anywhere else in the world.
