Suzuki has released advanced details of its exciting 2008-model
RM-Z250 motocross machine, due to arrive in Australia next
month.
Featuring a lightweight and powerful 249cc, four-stroke engine
coupled with a strong, lightweight aluminium chassis, Showa
suspension and an array of high-performance components, the RM-Z250
is a pack-leading Pro Lites racer.
The latest version of this awesome motocrosser features a wide
range of modifications, including developments to the engine,
frame, suspension and brakes, plus striking new graphics.
“Built on the impressive platform of the 2007 Suzuki
RM-Z250, the new 2008-model incorporates a number of key
developments to ensure it will be the one to catch on the
racetrack,” Perry Morison, General Manager, Motorcycles,
Suzuki Australia said.
Powered by a compact, 249cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC
engine, Suzuki’s latest RM-Z250 is further improved with a
redesigned piston profile for less mechanical resistance, to
deliver exhilarating performance.
The composite-plated, aluminium-alloy cylinder offers increased
durability, optimum engine cooling and operating temperature with a
forged, two-ring piston designed for maximum oil retention and
minimal wear.
Using cam profiles selected to supply a wide powerband with
strong outright power, the RM-Z250’s exhaust port has been
newly designed to enhance the power output at mid-to-high rpm.
An automatic decompression system means kick-starting the
RM-Z250 is easy.
For easier clutch operation, the hot starter has been relocated
to the right-hand side of the handlebar just like Ricky
Carmichael's championship winning RM-Z450.
New clutch judder springs have also been added to improve feel
for clutch lever operation.
Incorporating two ignition maps, the AC-CDI ignition system
automatically increases engine idle speed to reduce engine brake
effect, while the ignition timing and rev limiter are set for
optimum high rpm and over-rev performance.
Newly equipped with a Keihin
FCR37MX carburetor with bat-wing type air guide plates result
in better mid-to-high power output while improving low throttle
opening response.
The twin-spar aluminium-alloy frame - based on the championship
winning RM-Z450 - now offers even better rider manoeuvrability
through a revised chassis.
Modified to reduce weight and improve shock absorption, the 47mm
inner tube, Showa inverted, twin-chamber, cartridge-style front
fork offers 22-way compression damping, 20-way rebound damping and
300mm of wheel travel, delivering even more agile handling for
racers.
The Showa rear shock absorber comprises a newly designed damper
case and modified internal structure for a better controlled feel
and increased bottoming resistance.
Race-inspired front and rear brake wave-rotors provide better
cooling performance and increased mud deflection in muddy
conditions.
The 2008 RM-Z250 rides on Dunlop tyres with lightweight
aluminium rims.
Titanium serrated footpegs offer low weight, maximum strength
and improved grip in all riding conditions.
Renthal tapered aluminium handlebars with a Renthal-labelled
handlebar pad are included as standard, reducing vibration and
increasing rider feel.
Set to stand out from the pack, Suzuki’s distinctive
Champion Yellow livery incorporates aggressive new graphics for
2008, while the new gold-plated drive chain and axle blocks give a
full factory look.
The RM-Z250 is expected to land on Australian soil in October,
at an SRP of $9,990 (inc GST).
