Suzuki Australia will take the wraps off its eagerly-anticipated 2008 GSX-R750 for the first time at the Brisbane International Motor Show, February 1-10, offering an exclusive preview of the all-new thoroughbred sportsbike.

Launched in 1985, the original Suzuki GSX-R750 took racer replica sportsbikes to a new level, offering all-round performance never before seen from a street-legal motorcycle.

The second-generation model reset the standards in 1996, and 2008’s all-new GSX-R750 is ready to do it all again.

Suzuki’s most-powerful 750cc four-stroke production engine is coupled with a new cast-aluminium frame, exciting new styling, and an array of further developed high-performance parts to deliver open-class performance in a compact middleweight-sized package.

“The Suzuki GSX-R750 was the original race replica motorcycle and we’re proud to unveil the all-new 2008 model in Australia,” Perry Morison, General Manager, Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia said.

“With its most-powerful engine yet, better handling and a range of other developments, the latest generation GSX-R750 is ready to set a new benchmark for street legal supersport motorcycles.”

Featuring technology developed and proven in international competition, the GSX-R750 is powered by Suzuki’s most powerful, efficient and cleanest running production 750cc engine ever.

The four-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled powerplant features a big 70.0mm bore and 48.7mm short stroke, four lightweight titanium-alloy valves per cylinder and a 15,000 rpm redline.

A new downdraft dual-injector Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) fuel injection system delivers more linear throttle response and increased torque, while long velocity stacks on each throttle body barrel improve mid-range acceleration.

Allowing riders to instantaneously select one of three engine maps to suit their preferences or the conditions with a handlebar switch, the GSX-R750 is now equipped with Suzuki’s advanced Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS).

Working in conjunction with SDTV and S-DMS, the 2008 GSX-R750 has a new, smaller and lighter 32-bit Engine Control Module (ECM) with 1024 kilobytes of ROM to enhance engine performance and efficiency.

Stabilising engine idle, improving cold starts and reducing emissions, the Suzuki is fitted with the new Idle Speed Control (ISC).

Airflow pressure into the engine is maximised by Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) induction, with an efficient louver system inside the ram-air intakes for cooler, smoother and straighter airflow.

Designed to reduce pressure on the clutch plates during deceleration for smoother downshifting and corner entry, the GSX-R750 features a race-proven back-torque-limiting clutch.

Updated high-capacity trapezoidal, curved radiators have increased capacity without increasing the overall radiator or fairing width, and provide improved air flow.

The new, high-volume Suzuki Advanced Exhaust System (SAES) and its innovative under engine chamber lead to a new, large-volume muffler with a distinctively-shaped triangular silencer, to maximise cornering clearance and provide ample internal volume to meet latest emission regulations.

A lightweight cast-alloy frame is central to the Suzuki’s new evolutionary look and is engineered to deliver superb cornering on the road or racetrack, optimum rigidity and unmatched accuracy.

Designed to ensure rider comfort on the street or track, the GSX-R750 has a relatively low 810mm seat with the handlebars well within reach, and features three position-adjustable footpegs to suit rider preference.

Further enhancing rider convenience, the brake pedal and master cylinder move with the right footpeg assembly while the shift lever linkage is adjustable to accommodate changes to the left footpeg position.

The Suzuki’s electronically-controlled steering damper reduces damping forces to deliver lighter steering at lower speeds and while parking, and increases damping force at racetrack or highway speeds.

New Showa inverted cartridge front forks are fully adjustable for high and low speed compression, spring preload and rebound damping, with 120mm of wheel travel.

A 41mm aluminium Showa rear shock absorber with a 14mm rod diameter is fully adjustable for high and low speed compression, spring preload and rebound damping for optimised rider control.

Radial-mount four piston brake calipers, thinner, dual-floating 310mm front discs and a revised front brake master cylinder are part of the impressive brake package on the GSX-R750, which also includes a single 220mm rear disc.

Specially-designed for the GSX-R750, new front 120/70ZR17M/C and rear 180/55ZR17M/C radial tyres are fitted to lighter, more rigid and stronger cast aluminium-alloy wheels, with curved spokes matching the wheel direction.

With an innovative new design, the 2008 GSX-R750 has a fuel capacity of 17 litres, up from the previous 16.5-litre fuel tank, while sound absorbing material underneath the tank helps reduce mechanical noise.

The result of extensive wind-tunnel development, the edgier 2008 GSX-R750 is even more aerodynamic, maintaining rider wind protection while reducing overall drag.

One of the few signs the GSX-R750 doesn’t just belong on the racetrack, its bold new headlight design includes a central 55W halogen projector low beam headlight and a 60W halogen multi-reflector high beam on each side.

Part of the sleek aerodynamic package, front and rear turn signals are integrated into the rearview mirror and tail section respectively, and both feature red lenses and red LED’s for improved visibility.

A compact, lightweight instrument cluster includes a step-motor controlled analogue tachometer, LCD speedometer, dual trip meters, clock and LCD and LED indicators including a gear position indicator and programmable shift light.

The all-new 2008 Suzuki GSX-R750 is expected to land in Australia in May, with pricing and colour options to be announced closer to the arrival date.
